Dr. Rani’s doctoral research centered on the design and development of conducting polymer nanocomposite-based breath sensors for the selective detection of disease-related gas/VOCs biomarkers. Her postdoctoral research was focused on new functional materials like transition metal carbides/nitrides (MXene) for water remediation applications. Moving forward, she aims to continue her research in gas sensor technology, particularly focusing on next-generation materials such as 2D materials, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), and hybrid nanocomposites for healthcare and food monitoring, environmental safety, and industrial applications.
Dr. Rani joined as a Assistant Professor at the Centre for Research in Functional Materials (CRFM), Jain University, in January 2026. Before that, she was a Postdoctoral Fellow at CRFM, Jain University. Dr. Rani earned her Ph.D. in Applied Sciences (Physics) from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi, at the B.M.S. College of Engineering (VTU-Research Centre), where she was supported by a Research Assistantship from TEQIP-1.2.1:World bank funded project. Her doctoral research was dedicated to the synthesis, characterization, and transport properties of conducting polymer nanocomposites for gas sensor applications. She earned her Post-graduation (M.Sc.) in Physics in 2003 from Shivaji University, Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India. She graduated (B.Sc.) in Physics in 2001 from Shivaji University, Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India, where she secured Third Rank in the University.
Apart from research, she enjoys traveling to new places, learning new things, spending time with family and friends.
