Workshop at SCCS 2025: "Smart Moves: Mapping Evolutionary Flexibility in Animals" — conducted by Dr. Deyatima Ghosh and Dr. Maitreya Sil, this advanced short workshop introduced participants to phylogenetic tools for tracing adaptability and evolutionary flexibility across species, offering valuable insights for conservation in a changing world.

The Power of Frugal Science workshop with Prof. Manu Prakash at JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) on 06/09/2025 was a huge success! Co-hosted by the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) and CUBEC JU, the event brought educators together to explore how innovative, low-cost tools like the Foldscope can transform science education, spark creativity, and foster innovation in classrooms. A heartfelt thank you to Prof. Prakash for inspiring us to realize that science truly belongs to everyone, everywhere.
The Sustainable Development Goals Workshop at JAIN University, held on 12th August 2025, focused on conservation and biodiversity. Dr. Ramachandra Rao G discussed the importance of forest conservation and traditional ecological practices, while Mr. Suhas Premkumar showcased his documentary Little Planet: A Tale of Frog, highlighting frogs as key bioindicators. The event inspired attendees to view nature as a living system and encouraged adopting sustainable practices for a healthier planet.

The School of Sciences at Jain (Deemed-to-be University), in collaboration with the Centre for Urban Ecology, successfully hosted an insightful session titled "Translating Research Ideas into Grant Proposals" on Tuesday, 27th May 2025. The session, held at the Conference Hall, featured Dr. Surendra Ghaskadbi, Emeritus Scientist (CSIR) and retired member of the Developmental Biology Group at MACS-Agharkar Research Institute, as the distinguished speaker. Attendees gained valuable guidance on effectively converting innovative research concepts into impactful grant proposals.

CUBEC organized the Mapping Essentials Workshop from January 30-31, 2025. The workshop featured expert resource persons from Gubbi Labs, Dr. Sudhira H. S. and Mr. Bharata Srinivasa, who conducted a hands-on training session on mapping essentials using QGIS software. Participants gained valuable practical experience and insights into the use of QGIS for effective mapping.

CUBEC, Jain (Deemed-to-be University), in collaboration with the Department of Botany and the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA), successfully organized a One-Day Workshop on "Molecular Phylogenetics and Sequence Evolution" at Bangalore University on 30th November 2024. The workshop featured insightful sessions led by Prof. Praveen Karanth and Dr. Siddharthan Surveswaran, who captivated the audience with their expertise and knowledge in this cutting-edge field.
In a vibrant session at the School of CS & IT, Jain (Deemed-To-Be University), Dr. Chetan shared his insights as a distinguished speaker for the event themed "Small Acts, Big Impact: Everyday Choices for a Greener Future." Held on October 29, 2024, from 10:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M., his talk inspired attendees to embrace sustainable actions and raise environmental awareness, showcasing the importance of urban ecology, biodiversity, and wildlife conservation.
Dr. G. Ramachandra Rao delivered a plenary talk at Lake 2024: Wetlands for Human Well-being, the 14th Biennial International Lake Symposium, held from 17-20th October 2024. The event, organized by CES, Indian Institute of Science in collaboration with Alva's College, Moodubidri, took place at the Auditorium of AIET, Alva's Institute of Engineering & Technology, Moodubidri, Mangalore, Karnataka. The symposium was well-attended by representatives from IITs, IIITs, universities, colleges, and schools across India.
All three of them—Mr. Ganesh Nag, Mr. Gagan Kini, and Ms. Bindu—won the Sahyadri Young Ecologist Award for their outstanding contributions to ecological research. In the same picture, Dr. G. Ramachandra Rao, their PhD supervisor, is also present. His invaluable support played a crucial role in their achievements.
