The School of Design, Media and Creative Arts is dedicated to unleashing the creativity of the students through innovative approaches to design education. Comprehensively powered by one of the top universities, the School of Design, Media and Creative Arts will offer rigorous, studio-based learning that engages the creative students in focused training, interdisciplinary inquiry, and practice-based collaborative learning. At the School of Design, Media and Creative Arts, the students will embrace change, creativity and critical thinking abilities. Leadership


A veteran of the industry, Mr. Sathish Narayanan blends his extensive experience with his managerial skills to offer a genuine mentorship. With over three decades spanning in advertising, design, animation, visual effects, and the VR/AR sector, he excels in ideation, conceptualisation, content strategising, branding, and film production. He was awarded the Grand Jury Prize at the New York Film Festival as a founding member of Design Media and Edutainment Solutions Pvt Ltd and as a co-founder of Nectar Pixels Pvt Ltd. Holding a Master of Fine Arts in Industrial Design, Mr. Narayanan is a core committee member of the AVGC Sub Task Force under the Ministry of Skills and Entrepreneurship, Government of India. He advises the Media and Entertainment Skills Council, serves as an expert for World Skills International, and is the chief expert for World Skills India in Graphic Design. He has an academic influence on the curricula of institutions like Jagran Lake City University, VU Vishwakarma University, Lovely Professional University, Ramesh Sippy Academy and AICTE.

Mr. Narayanan, as a proactive intermediary, is effectively managing, bridging client needs and internal production teams in order to achieve timely and high quality results. Overseeing digital workflows, including ideation, pre-production, 2D & 3D production, and post-production, he contributes to long-term strategy development for companies.

He led India to the bronze medal at the WorldSkills Olympics in Kazan, Russia, in 2019 as a true leader. He remains committed to societal responsibility, despite his several accolades. Serving as Charter President (2017-18) of the Rotary Club of Pune, Amanora, he initiated free medical camps, distributed blankets, and promoted environmental awareness marathons. He continues to inspire and mentor young minds today, as a remarkable example of leadership in practice.

Professor Suman Devadula is deeply enthusiastic about design and believes that incorporating design-driven innovation can facilitate a move towards sustainability in a structured manner. His exceptional research work in the area of design and sustainability has been acknowledged multiple times at national and international levels.

With more than ten years of experience in the design industry, he has worked at John Deere in India and Germany, where he played a pivotal role in establishing industrial design and related development services at their India Technology Centre. Additionally, he has contributed significantly to the academic field, having initiated successful design programmes at PES University in Bengaluru and MIT-WPU in Pune, which has added immense value to the respective industry and institutions. He is a member of IRC (ICoRD’21,22,23), DRS, ISSP, HDCA, Academic Council (JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), MIT-WPU and SPPU. Before joining JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), he held the position of Chairperson at MIT-WPU and SPPU, where he played a significant role in designing and developing the curriculum for undergraduate and postgraduate design programmes. He also worked as a Coordinator for the Technology, Innovation, and Design TG of HDCA, USA, from 2015 to 2018. Moreover, he is a Certified Sustainability Associate from ISSP, USA, and possesses expertise in Corporate Sustainability Reporting GRI G4.0.

He is a highly regarded expert and a sought-after guest speaker in various professional training programmes related to Ideation, Design Thinking (AIF, AF), Design Thinking for Sustainability (Autodesk Foundation), Sustainability by Design (Indus University), Product Design for Healthcare (IIPH), Exhibit Design for Curators (NCSM), Sustainable Systems and Craft Studies (NIFT), Inclusive Design (NIF), and Design Prototyping for School students (NASA contest projects). His guidance and mentorship have resulted in several students winning national and international design contests. During his student years, he held prominent positions such as General Secretary of the IISc Students' Council from 2010-11 and was also nominated as a student member on the DCC, CPDM in 2006-07.

His research interests are broad and interdisciplinary, covering the fields of AI, design, cognition, and sustainability. He has published fifteen research papers in renowned international journals and conferences. He also holds five design patents/registrations, having collaborated with other inventors, and has been involved in the design of several Proof of Concepts (PoCs) and products for John Deere that have been successful in the market.

He holds a Ph.D. in Sustainability by Design from IISc, Bangalore, a B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from GVPCoE, JNTU Hyderabad, an M.Des. in Product Design from CPDM, IISc, Bangalore, and a Post-graduate Diploma in Re-designing Human Rights from IIHR, New Delhi.

Dr. Avinash Dnyandevrao Kate, born on January 3, 1975, is a visionary International artist and educator with a deep spiritual inclination. He holds a Ph.D. in Applied Arts from Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University. His artistic journey began with a Bachelor's in Fine Arts from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, followed by a Master's from the University of Delhi and various diplomas in arts education Dr. Kate's career objective centres around personal and professional growth in a stimulating environment.

His motto encompasses spiritual lectures with scientific explanations, promoting moral upliftment, literacy, and self-employment in rural areas, along with promoting a healthy and successful life through art. He has been a driving force in numerous social and extension activities, including the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and nature conservation campaigns. He follows the path shown by his Guru Vedmoorti, Taponishtha, Param Pujya, Pt. Shriram Sharma Acharya Ji, Founder of the Global Gayatri Pariwar Fraternity. He has also earned recognition for his artistic achievements, including various awards, world records, and exhibitions that highlight his dedication to art, culture, and societal well-being.

Dr. Kate's professional journey has seen him serve as the Art Director, Visualiser, and Art Teacher at Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya, Principal, HOD, and Director at Moolji Jaitha College, Director at Sukhi Pariwar Foundation, Principal at Amulya Bharat Sangeet-Kala Parishad College of Visual and Performing Arts, and Director at India International Multiversity Gurukul of Fine Arts, among other leadership roles. He is currently the Dean at JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), Art and Design, Shantamani Kala Kendra.

About Faculty

Education at The School of Design, Media and Creative Arts will be delivered by accomplished and competent Faculty members who, as Designers possess a wide range of expertise ranging from Textile Design, Product Design, Lifestyle Products and Accessories Design to UI / UX Design from major Design Institutes (including NID and IITs) and Industry.

The members of the Board of Studies and the Industry Advisory Board of The School of Design, Media and Creative Arts are from major Design Institutes like NID, IITs and from various domains of the Industry such as IT, Manufacturing, Electronics, Handicrafts & Handloom sectors.

Collaboration

The School of Design, Media and Creative Arts will have multi-prong collaborations with various kinds of Industries and academia - including the manufacturing industry, the transportation Industry, the IT industry, the bio-medical products sector, products for the physically challenged ones, the service sectors, the handicrafts and handlooms sector and the academia - both national and international.

The mechanism & strategic partnership for such collaborations will address at the following:

  • Real-life exposure to students for realistic needs of Design development and innovation
  • Bringing in external contemporary Industry knowledge to class-room environment
  • Joint development of Innovations and New Product Development strategies for a third party

Facilities

Facilities at The School of Design, Media and Creative Arts will include Model making and prototyping studio with basic tools and machines for working with materials such as wood, metal, series of plastic material, finishing tools including paint shop, drawing studio, photography studio, relevant software – both academic and commercial versions, preview rooms with editable sound systems.
