As a part of the Basic Materials and Methods -1 course, students were taken to a 3D printing/additive manufacturing unit on 8th November 2019, to get an exposure to latest advances in technologies used in manufacturing of products.
Students got an opportunity to understand the process of 3D printing, which is a three-dimensional object being built from a computer-aided design model, usually by successively adding material layer by layer, which is why it is also called additive manufacturing.

A visit to a manufacturing unit of products made out of natural material – stone, was conducted on 13th November 2019, during the course of Basic Materials and Methods-1.
Students got the opportunity to get introduced to various kinds of stones available in the natural.
As a part of the course Basic material explorations – 1, students were taken to a Corian Material Studio on 13th November 2019.
Bengaluru, 30 January 2026:
JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), through its Department of Art and Design, recently conducted an External
Jury Viva for the 4th-semester Commercial Design Studio Minor Project, providing undergraduate interior design
students with an industry-aligned academic evaluation.
The jury review was held as part of the programme's continuous assessment framework and focused on student-led design proposals for the interiors of international architectural, interior design, or advertising brands planning to establish offices in India. Students worked in collaborative groups to conceptualise workplaces on the 18th floor of an IGBC Platinum-rated commercial building, with the flexibility to apply to metropolitan contexts such as Bengaluru, Chennai, or Hyderabad.
The primary objective of the Minor Project was to assess students' ability to formulate a professional design brief grounded in research, sustainability, and user-centric thinking. Project requirements included defining aims and scope, developing a client profile, conducting literature and live case studies, and translating findings into a coherent concept through mood boards and spatial bubble diagrams.
The External Jury was led by Ar. Sonali D Kamath (IGBC AP, LEED GA), Sustainability Consultant at Dar Al-Handasah, an international consultancy recognised as Sustainability Consultant of the Year 2024 at the MENA Green Building Awards. Her evaluation focused on conceptual clarity, alignment with global workplace standards, and the integration of sustainable design strategies appropriate for high-performance office environments.
Speaking on the academic value of the review, a faculty representative from the Department of Art and Design noted that the jury process “exposes students to professional critique and reinforces the importance of evidence-based design decisions, sustainability benchmarks, and contextual relevance in contemporary commercial interiors.”
The review saw active participation from undergraduate students and faculty members, with projects demonstrating measurable learning outcomes, including research-led design justification, sustainable workplace planning, and concept-driven spatial development aligned with industry expectations.
The External Jury Viva reflects JAIN (Deemed-to-be University)'s ongoing commitment to practice-oriented design education, ensuring that students engage meaningfully with real-world design challenges and professional evaluation processes as part of their academic progression.
