Creative Workshop By The Design School, 2022

Any ‘Creative Endeavor’ comprises two facets – First - the thinking part – the way of looking at things from a different perspective, and second - the skill and tactics of ‘executing’ that thought.

These two facets may not be everyone's cup of tea, a structured hand-holding and appropriate guidance may bring significant results out of many.

On that note, a workshop on papercraft was organized for the senior students of the Jain International Residential School. The participants were asked to ‘express their emotion in the form of shapes using cut paper – intermingled with light’. The process of arriving at a form that rightfully interacts with light’ while expressing ‘Emotion’ was the focus of this workshop.

About 60 students participated in this one-of-a-kind competition led by Ms. Tina Roy, Ms. Charu Tiwary, Mr. Akshay Koranne, Mr. Rajshekhar Narayan, Mr. Kiran Gopinath, and Mr. Vishal Verma, all Faculty members of The School of Design, Media and Creative Arts, JAIN (Deemed-to-be University). Finally, three students’ works were selected based on ‘originality of expression of emotion embodied in the form’, ‘treatment of material in terms of sensitivity, and ‘principle of application and reasoning thereof’.

EDC workshop on “Experience Design for the Real World”

The Design School, JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) in collaboration with EDC Creative Technology Solutions Pvt.Ltd. conducted design workshop on “Experience Design for the Real World”. The workshop was conducted in an Online Mode from 8th March 2021- 12th March 2021. It was conducted as a part of the course Science and Liberal Arts and Principles of Visual Experience, which is one of the core courses for B.Des. 4th Semester students (Product Design, LPAD, and Graphic Design).

EDC Creative Technology Solutions is an experience design company specializing in turnkey design to implementation of experience centers and interactive museums. It is an award-winning creative technology solutions company, with an impeccable track record of 25 years in business in designing and implementing many of India’s interactive museums of the future.

The design sessions over the 5 days were conducted as a workshop, taking a live use case and elaborating the design phases and realized for a Corporate Experience Centre project. Students of all specializations got an opportunity to attend and participate in the workshop. Also, students got experience on how to plan such a huge project, working as a team with various departments.

Each day of the workshop was structured in a way to cover various topics such as –INCEPTION– idea, innovation, business sense, ELABORATION –Experience, Themes, Design, Stories, Technology, REALIZATION – Space, Exhibits, Technologies, Story Telling, Visual Communication & Interactions, IMPLEMENTATION – Teams, Challenges/ Dynamics, Time & Cost, APPRECIATION – Project Unveiling, Team Evaluation/ Feedback.

The workshop empowered the students with knowledge of working for real clients and their requirements. The students got a glimpse into the plethora of technological advancements that already exist and drive pioneering concepts into actualization and the hierarchy of spaces. The workshop enabled students to think and realize concepts better in the related domain of space, this also included the creation of a brand identity along with name, logo, logo-type, wayfinding signage system, environmental graphics, and other collaterals for the experience center.

Amazon workshop on – "Working Customer backwards: The Amazon way"

Working Customer backwards: The Amazon way” workshop was conducted by Amazon India Experience Design team at the design school campus on 17th December, 2019.

Senior UX manager, Mr. Biju Damodharan talks about-

• Importance of understanding the value processed by any product or service.
• Proper Articulation, as a means of documentation and understanding one’s goals and objectives of the project in question.

Mr. Manoj Mani, Senior UX Designer explains about-

• Initial stages of the design process, at Amazon and of a designer’s method in general.
• How to guide and participate in a group discussion
• How to manage time at a smaller scale.
• Establishment of a small network, possibilities of work.

Mr. Karthik Ankam, UX Designer talks about-

• The advantages of planning out stages and steps in design process before a single step of proto-typing
• The flexibility planning gives the person in terms of reforming goals based on public reactions.
• Basics of articulating a press release, what it does and how it helps get every stakeholder and team member on board, and share the same goals and ideas.

Later students were given a task in groups to bring out ideas on a ‘cycle start-up’ by giving a catchy name and a scheme to attract people into promoting fitness. Followed by presentation by students and discussions on the same subject, which was a very interesting , encouraging and engaging activity for the students.
