Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.)


Eligibility

Candidate should hold a Master’s Degree (from a recognized university) in the relevant subject with a minimum of 55% (In the case of SC / ST candidates there will be a relaxation of 5%)

Candidates who are qualified for CA or ACS or ICWA with basic degree are also eligible to register for M.Phil. in this category

Candidates who have qualified for Master’s Degree prior to 1990 - 1991, with no less than 50% marks are also eligible to register for M.Phil. program

Admission Procedure

Eligible candidates will be required to take up M.Phil. Entrance examination comprising an Aptitude Test, a Subject Paper and an Interview

Reservations for SC, ST and other candidates shall be as per extant guidelines of the Government of India

Application Amount - INR 1200

Overview

The M.Phil. Degree shall have the status of an intermediate Degree between the first Post-Graduate Degree and the Doctorate Degree. This one year program has both research and course components and will give the student adequate background for advanced research.

Curriculum Structure
Term 1

Term one is of 8-month duration and includes:

  • Research Methodology
  • Core Paper (as an elective)
  • Specialization Paper (Guide Paper)
Term 2

Term Two will be for duration of 4 months, during which the candidates should complete their Dissertation. In addition, they must undertake courses in general skills related to the teaching-learning process such as:

  • Computer Application Skills
  • Communicative Skills
  • Pedagogical Skills and Practical Training in Teaching
Note:

The M.Phil. candidate is expected to secure approval of the Research topic from the Guide within one month of the start of the first term. Literature review should be completed within 4 months of the start of the first term. Synopsis should be completed within 6 months of the start of the first term.

Evaluation

Candidates shall be awarded pass in M.Phil. Program upon:

  • Securing an aggregate of 50% marks in the term end exams, and a minimum of 40% marks in each subject
  • Securing an aggregate of 50% marks in the Dissertation and a minimum of 40% marks each in the Thesis and Viva
  • Award of pass grade in the Faculty Skills Development component
