Overview

The Master of Arts (MA) in English is a two-year postgraduate programme designed to develop advanced critical thinking, cultural literacy, and professional communication skills relevant to contemporary academic and industry contexts. The programme prepares students for intellectually rigorous and socially relevant careers across education, media, publishing, research, digital communication, and allied fields.
 
Rooted in literary and cultural studies, the curriculum engages students with texts and narratives from the Classical to the Postmodern, while also opening pathways into interdisciplinary and emerging domains such as Digital Humanities, Film Studies, English Language Teaching, Medical Humanities, Environmental Humanities, Translation Studies, and Graphic Narratives.
 
Aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) framework, the programme integrates research training, credited internships, experiential learning, and performance-based components that enable students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world and professional settings, fostering both academic depth and career readiness.
 
Duration: 2 Years (4 Semesters)

Eligibility

A student who has passed a 3-year undergraduate degree (level 5.5, a total of 120 credits) shall be eligible for admission to 2-year MA programmes.  
 
Preference will be given to candidates who have secured at least 50% marks (45% marks in case  of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the qualifying examination. 
 
However, students who have not studied requisite  courses from the discipline related to the respective programmes will have to undertake the prescribed bridge course(s).
