Career Outcomes

Graduates of the B.Sc (Honours / Honours with Research) in Physics with Minor in Space Science / Mathematics / Computer Science are well-prepared for diverse and evolving professional pathways, including:

Core Physics & Scientific Analysis

Graduates build, test, and refine models that explain physical phenomena in classical, quantum, and modern physics. They analyse complex systems and translate theory into measurable outcomes. Graduates apply rigorous experimental and computational methods. This pathway values precision, reproducibility, and ethical scientific practice. It prepares graduates to contribute in laboratories, observatories, and technology-driven environments where evidence-based reasoning shapes decisions.

Space, Earth & Applied Physical Sciences

Drawing on space science foundations, graduates interpret satellite, telescope, and sensor data. They use these to understand planetary systems, climate processes, and space environments. Graduates support mission planning, data analysis, and technology validation. They consider sustainability, safety, and responsible use of space and Earth resources. This work links physics to societal needs, from climate resilience to space awareness. Scientific insight here guides long-term stewardship.

Data, Computation & Digital Science

With a minor in Mathematics or Computer Science, graduates design simulations and analyse large datasets. They develop algorithms that speed up discovery and use programming, numerical methods, and AI-assisted tools. Graduates extract patterns from complex data and clearly explain uncertainty. They also promote responsible use of digital technologies. This pathway allows movement across sectors where computational skills and clear analysis are essential.

Research, Education & Scientific Communication

Graduates advance knowledge through research design and literature synthesis. They conduct ethical inquiry, contributing to academic projects, research centres, and interdisciplinary teams. Graduates translate complex ideas for diverse audiences by teaching, outreach, and science communication. This strengthens public understanding and evidence-based discussion. Research literacy and communication skills lead to postgraduate studies and knowledge-driven careers.

Industry, Innovation & Technology Translation

Graduates apply physical principles to real-world systems in energy, materials, instrumentation, electronics, and manufacturing. They collaborate across disciplines to optimise processes and validate technologies. Graduates also work to improve reliability and safety. This pathway promotes professional responsibility, quality assurance, and innovation. It turns theory into scalable, socially relevant solutions.

Graduates leave with strong skills in science, computing, and ethics—ready to adjust, learn new things, and lead as jobs in physics change over time.
