Manish Pandey – International Cricket Player

Distinguished as the first Indian cricketer to score a century in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Manish Pandey now represents Karnataka in domestic cricket and Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. The 27-year old Indian international cricketer entered into the record books when he scored a century while playing for his former IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2009. The right-handed middle-order batsman has previously played with other IPL teams including Mumbai Indians and Pune Warriors.

Started playing cricket from the age of 8, he began his official journey in cricket by representing Mysore in a state level match. Pandey made his debut in One Day International and Twenty20 International for India against Zimbabwe in July 2015. His successful debut in Zimbabwe tour became the reason to join the ODI squad for the Australia tour in January 2016 where he gave a spectacular performance and helped India win its only match of the whole series.

Pandey was awarded with Madhavrao Scindia Award for scoring the most runs in the 2009 IPL match. The 19-year old lad went from Karnataka’s Ranji Trophy to be the only batsman to score a century in the IPL tournament. He was also a part of the 2008 ICC Under-19 World Cup held in Malaysia where India won the finals played against South Africa.

As a Jain University alumnus, Manish Pandey has inaugurated their annual sports event VIE 2017 hosted by the Department of Sports. “The interactive and revolutionary sports department of Jain University has provided me with the necessary skillset to excel in the field of sports. Chenraj sir and the entire sports department have been very supportive and assisted me in making the most of my talent to achieve greater heights in the world of sports,” he believes.

With his splendid performance in IPL matches, he has established himself as a name in cricket to watch out for. A regular in the domestic cricket, he has done exceptionally well in 2013-14 Ranji season by becoming the second highest run-getter for Karnataka. A flourishing cricketer and an agile fieldsman, Pandey is well-known for his half-sweep-half-flick shot towards midwicket which has become his trademark shot.
