About NEP 2020

Message of the Chancellor
Dr. Chenraj Roychand

Patron, NEP Taskforce

Heartfelt compliments to all!

Luminary educationist Rabindranath Tagore had envisioned the noble purpose of education in its offering to humankind the unity of truth. Likewise, the present age of global interconnectedness calls for seamless convergence of knowledge systems into an integrated whole. Besides upholding diversity that captures the essence of India, NEP-2020 resonates with a deep spirit of harmony and oneness.

Since inception, JAIN has embraced a model of education that weaves together heterogeneous minds and cultures. As a multidisciplinary institution with NAAC A++ accreditation, we view our growth through the achievements of our students.

As the University advances its NEP action plan, the vision document reflects our longstanding commitment to transformation. Departments are adopting flexible, innovative learning models, diverse assessments, and experiential, trans-disciplinary project-centric methodologies.

With optimism and conviction toward empowerment through education, I commend every faculty member and staff for their steady efforts and wish them an exciting journey ahead.

Introduction

The UN’s SDG4 aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning for all by 2030. This demands rapid adaptation by Indian HEIs to meet global technological advances and evolving employment landscapes. Higher-order learning and research have never been more important.

India's rich cultural heritage offers immense potential for transformative higher education - experiential learning, universal knowledge relevance, and freedom through knowledge form its core. As globalization expands, students must gain capabilities that foster value, character, and global mobility.

The National Education Policy 2020, India's first in this century, proposes restructuring higher education to meet developmental needs while staying rooted in Indian ethos. It aims to prepare students for global citizenship and meaningful employment.

JAIN, a forerunner in innovation and design-thinking, is committed to implementing NEP 2020 in letter and spirit.

Key Principles

NEP-2020 lays down transformative principles and major goals for the future of Higher Education in India:

Major Higher Education Goals of NEP 2020
  • Institutional Restructuring and Consolidation
  • Towards a more Holistic Education
  • Optimal Learning Environments & Student Support
  • Motivated, Energised & Capable Faculty
  • Teacher Education
  • Reimagining Vocational Education
  • Professional Education
  • Promoting High-quality Research
  • Effective Governance & Leadership
  • Transforming the Regulatory System
  • Promotion of Indian Languages, Arts & Culture

NEP 2020 identifies broad objectives to transform Higher Education in line with the aspirations of New India:
  • Foster unique capabilities of every student through holistic academic and non-academic development.
  • Remove boundaries between arts, sciences, curricular and co-curricular areas to dissolve learning silos.
  • Enable multidisciplinary and holistic education for unity and integrity of knowledge.
  • Develop deep specialization along with ethical values, creativity, curiosity, and service orientation.
  • Offer diverse programs across domains to create thoughtful, well-rounded individuals.
  • Prepare students for meaningful life roles, economic independence, and societal contribution.

All HEIs must rethink and redesign their delivery models to achieve these objectives with clear, time-bound action plans shared across stakeholders.
